According to Newsis,

Gwangju-si stated on Sep. 15 that the 'International Safe City Re-Certification Proclamation Ceremony' would be launched at a fountain square in the Bitgoel Citizen Cultural Center on 20.

The ceremony will be joined by around 15,000 participants including members from six subcommittees that actively ran the project on safety promotion; Gwangju Mayor Kang Gi-jung; Gwangju Superintendent Lee Jung-sun and more.

A progress report in the past five years will open the ceremony, followed by signing the official agreement, transferring the official emblem transfer, and having a safety performance.

Roughly 50 people including high-schoolers and the subcommittee personnel will take part in the performance. Also, activities of safety experience such as escaping a flooded vehicle will be held later on.

After Gwangju-si received its first official certification in 2016, the six subcommittees have taken initiative in operating as many as 138 safety promotion projects in eight sectors, aiming to 'make Gwnagju a safe city where every single citizen feels comfortable and enjoys safe daily lives.'

The city passed the screening last November and the examination this March, and eventually was re-certified as a safe community by the International Safe Community Certifying Center this May.
