According to Yonhap News,

Gwnagju-si has embarked on a journey to the actualization of K-Beauty City by fostering the beauty industry.

Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-Jung held the event of 'policy picnic' at the city square to discuss how to promote the beauty industry.

The Opening ceremony of 'K-Beauty Service Industry Opportunity City' was also joined by officials in the related industries as well as students.

The city proceeded with setting up a support system as well as the department in charge of fostering the beauty industry, and laid out 16 goals in three sectors, such as launching the K-beauty festival.

Industry officials suggested improving relevant education, establishing mid- and long-term development plans and liking medicine or tourism.

There are around 5,900 stores engaging in the beauty industry field and running a business. Additionally, two master craftsmen in Korea's beauty industry and 15 hundred-year-old stores are also located in Gwangju.

Furthermore, the city generates annually 500 talents who were educated in 15 departments at 13 schools.

The Mayor of Gwangju said, "As we gather at the first debate to realize the K-Beauty city, we will listen carefully to citizens' opinions," adding "We will transform Gwnagju into a new and vital city of beauty industries through innovation."
