The International Symposium marking the 30th Anniversary of the Establishment of the diplomatic ties between Korea and China was hosted by Gwangju-si and held at the Gwangju Holiday Hotel for two days starting from Oct. 18.

Experts from both countries agreed that despite the ups and downs of the bilateral relationship, especially collaboration in the fields of economy, culture and environment is much-needed, requiring local governments' strengthened cooperation.

Prof. Ahn Yu-hwa at the SKKU, briefed about the global trend when the international economy is rapidly shifting to the platform economy and China is taking the lead.

In terms of the climate crisis, experts from both countries all warned of its seriousness and maintained that specific joint efforts among local governments are of great urgency.

After having comprehensive discussions, the symposium participants adopted three 'Gwangju initiatives on the favorable relation between Korea and China, which are ▲continuing cooperation among local governments in Korea and China, ▲ expanding cooperative exchanges in the field of economy and culture, and ▲ jointly responding to the climate crisis.
