Former Vice Minister Ahn Do-geol put forward what's called the 'ABC' industries as the future growth engine of Gwangju.

He said during a policy seminar held at Kimdaejung convention Center on June 22, "Gwangju has to establish as a center of economy and culture of Korea by fostering the ABC industries that stands for AI, Biotechnology and Culture."

He added, "Gwangju needs to nurture an AI Valley, evolving into a Korean version of Silicon Valley by promoting the 2nd AI cluster as a national project, training AI professionals, and attracting anchor companies."

Other suggestions made by him include designating the eastern area (Dong-gu) of Gwangju, where large-scale medical centers and vaccine-related firms and research centers are located, and Hwasun, Jeollanam-do to foster a bio convergence zone to help develop high value-added drugs and medical devices.

. Former Vice Minister Ahn argued, "It will be conducive to attract talent and startups of the pharmaceutical industry, if the authorities provide financial and administrative backing to construct of new routes that bridge Jiwon-dong, Gwangju and Hwasun-eup"

He also mentioned Gwangju needs to build landmark buildings in its downtown in order to boost its cultural market.

"Upgrading Gwangju's reputation on the global stage requires fostering creative spaces to produce cultural contents and leisure facilities." Former Vice Minister Ahn stressed and, "The authorities of Gwangju should place priorities on nurturing the ABC industries to make this city an attractive destination that startups, young jobseekers, and foreign visitors will flock to."
