Gwangju Future Industry Expo 2023 that showcases advanced technologies, such as autonomous vehicles, home robots, and drones, kicked off on June 29 at Kimdaejung convention Center.

As the regional largest tech show in Honam (Jeolla Province), the Gwangju expo will run until July 1, displaying finished cars, driverless cars, automotive parts, home appliances, drones, robots and Korea's 14 major root technologies (technologies, including casting, molding, plastic working, welding, surface treatment and heat treatment, that are used in manufacturing industries such as the automobile, shipbuilding, and IT industries.).

With about 300 companies which are going to introduce their products and technologies, this 3-day tech show present attenders and participants with various events, such as tech seminars, export negotiation talks, etc.

Gwangju City Mayor Kang Ki-jung said, "We will devote ourselves to ensuring a successful hosting of Gwangju Future Industry Expo 2023 to secure a dominant position in high-tech industries, like semiconductor, next-generation batteries, and driverless vehicles, which will allow Gwangju to gear up for the future."

During the expo, Mayor Kang, President Na Seung-sik of Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATECH), and Advisor Kwon Moon-sik of Hyundai Motor Company attended a roundtable under the theme of 'Great Transformation to Future Vehicles, the Choice and Strategies of Gwangju'.

There, attendees discussed strategical paths that Gwangu should take, aligned with changes in industrial trends against the backdrop of the great transformation.

"Meeting the target of 2050 carbon neutrality requires substantial supports to businesses manufacturing mid-size and full-size vehicles, as well as commercial vehicles. There are, however, still many uncertainties surrounding self-driving technologies in particular.", said Ali Izadi-Najafabadi, Head of APAC at BloombergNEF who is one of the speakers.
