2,600 artworks to be displayed for Gwangju Design Biennale, setting a record

The number of art works at the Gwangju Design Biennale, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, is expected to set the record.

According to the Gwangju Institute of Design Promotion on August 16, the 10th Gwangju Design Biennale will be held on September 7 to November 7 in Gwangju, including the Biennale Exhibition Hall.

This year, under the theme of Meet Design, there will be: 10 design exhibitions including special exhibitions and commemorative exhibitions; international academic events; design experience & education and civic participation programs; export consultations by inviting overseas buyers; and design markets.

777 designers and 189 companies from about 50 countries will be participating and showcase 2,663 works.

It is a significant increase from 1,288 in 2017, 1,113 in 2019, and 1,039 in 2021, even exceeding the previous record of 2,007 set in 2007.

Major companies such as LG Electronics and Renault Korea, as well as famous domestic and foreign designers and writers such as Stefano Giovannoni, Murata Chiaki, Kim Hyun-sun, and Leenam Lee are on the list.

63 designers and 144 companies from 16 countries, including Italy and Japan, will showcase in the main exhibition consisted of four themes: Technology, Lifestyle, Culture, and Business.

355 designers from 26 countries will participate in the "International Poster Design Exhibition" organized by the Korean Federation of Design Associations (KFDA),

235 designers and college students from Gwangju and Jeonnam-do will participate in the special exhibition "Design Nexus", to be held at the Gwangju Institute of Design Promotion to showcase various product, visual and craft design works.

The Gwangju Museum of Art will display more than 100 art pieces under the theme of the Ecological Art Project.

There will be commemorative exhibitions held throughout Gwangju and Jeonnam-do, presenting various design works.

An official from the Gwangju Institute of Design Promotion said, "On the occasion of the 10th event this year, the number of event programs and art works is expected to rise with increasing interest in the Design Biennale."
