The Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms (MILA), one of the world's largest deep learning research institutes, and the Quebec government representative in Korea visited Gwangju to establish a cooperative system with the Artificial Intelligence Industry Cluster Agency (AICA) to revitalize the AI industry.

This is a follow-up measure since Kim Joon-ha, head of the AICA established relationships with key AI organizations in Canada, including government officials in Quebec, during a business trip to Canada in June, seeking concrete cooperation measures.

The AICA said that it held the 'AICA-MILA International Cooperation Networking Day for the Win-Win Development of the Korea-Canada AI Industry' at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) on September 21.

MILA, the world-class research institute with scholars in the field of machine learning and deep learning, discussed the ways to enhance cooperation on joint research and supporting expansion of Korean AI companies and talents in the global stage.

In addition, it held one-on-one interview with Ncer and Newjak, which are AI start-ups supported by the AICA, while also seeking ways to enter North America and Canada and cooperate in joint research.

MILA and the Quebec government representative in Korea visited the AI start-up camp located in Dong-gu, Gwangju, getting brief on the project to create an industrial convergence complex centered on artificial intelligence (AI integrated complex), enhancing understanding of the AI industry ecosystem in Gwangju.
