On October 23, Gwangju's Mayor Kang held a meeting with the Minister Lee of Science and ICT (MSIT) and senior officials of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF) at the Sejong Government Complex, with focus on securing budget for future growth engines such as artificial intelligence (AI).

In a meeting with Minister Lee, Gwangju's Mayor asked for government support, including the rapid passage of a preliminary feasibility study, to carry out the second phase of the AI complex without a hitch.

Mayor Kang suggested that Gwangju will be established as a world-class base for national AI innovation and create a "K-Valley" that materializes an AI demonstration city.

The second phase of the AI complex, which Gwangju will push for starting from 2025, will create an AI innovation ecosystem by utilizing the infrastructure built in the first stage. It will establish a data utilization system, conduct AI demonstration on an urban scale, and create an global AI ecosystem.

Gwangju Mayor said, "When the national AI data center starts its service within this year and the demonstration center opens next year, many companies will be gathered in Gwangju", asking continued support for the second phase of the AI project.

MIST's Minister responded positively that active support will be provided regarding Gawngju's proposition.

Mayor Kang also met with the finance managers of the MOEF and asked for the passage of a feasibility study so that Gwangju Medical Center could be established to reinforce local public health care system and resolve gaps in essential medical care.
