According to Yonhap News,

Gwangju-si completed acquiring the all sites of the project to create a "Gwangju Station Startup Valley" for Gwangju Station urban regeneration.

According to the Gwangju Metropolitan Government on December 4, the city recently purchased 8,730.5㎡ of idle land behind Gwangju Station owned by Korea Railroad (KORAIL), follwing the purchase of 5,132.5㎡ of land from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in April.

As a result, the city secured a total site of 14,224㎡, including 361㎡ of municipal land.

Gwangju Station Startup Valley has been pushed for to build a startup support infrastructure and revitalize the waning city center with an investment of KRW 435.1 billion in public investment in idle sites of Gwangju Station by 2027.

It will be divided into: economy-based urban regeneration project (KRW 266.3 billion); and an urban regeneration innovation zone creation project (KRW 168.8 billion).

The city will gradually establish infrastructure such as Eoulim Factory, Bitgoeul Startup Station, Multi-purpose Hub Center, Corporate Innovation Growth Center, Social Economy Innovation Town and provide one-stop support for start-ups.

Bitgoeul Start-up Station, which has been under construction since 2020 (current process rate at 70%), is scheduled to house startups from the second half of next year after completing construction in the first half of next year.

Currently six start-up companies have moved in the Eoulim Factory, gaining ground to become future unicorn companies.

An official from Gwangju-si said, "we will carry out urban regeneration projects for residents along with the creation of the largest start-up valley in Honam region".
