According to Yonhap News,

Gwangju-si will build an AI mobility demonstration city in cooperation with Kookmin University, a university specializing in automobiles.

Gwangju's Mayor and Kookmin University President signed an MOU on to create a mega-scale AI mobility ecosystem at Gwangju City Hall on January 16.

The two partieis agreed to establish a mega-scale AI mobility research center in Gwangju, foster regional-led AI mobility convergence talents, commercialize and conduct R&D of AI industrial convergence projects, support the establishment of business, and support demonstration efforts.

Gwangju-si plans to create a new cooperative model with Kookmin University and use infrastructure such as data centers and demonstration equipment in AI clusters to foster talents and develop technologies.

Kookmin University will establish a mega-scale AI mobility research center in the first half of this year.

Kookmin University, which operates the College of Automotive Engineering, the Graduate School of Automotive Engineering - the only graduate school in Korea focused on automobiles - has laboratories in various fields, including unmanned vehicles and intelligent mobility.

Gwangju-si opened a world-class national AI data center in November last year and is set to complete the construction of Korea's only AI cluster at the end of this year.

From 2025, the city will carry out the second stage project, applying AI to the region and local companies.
