Gwangju-si and Virginia, USA, have taken the first step towards cooperation for the development of food technology.
On November 18, Gwangju's mayor had a meeting with officials from Virginia at the City Hall for the cooperation in agriculture and food technologies.
The meeting was attended by: Joseph Guthrie, Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), Robert N. Corley III, Dean of the College of Agriculture at Virginia State University, Lee Gye-han, Dean of Chonnam National University's College of Agricultural Life Sciences, and Kim Doo-woon, President of Chonnam National University's Food Tech Department.
Participants had discussion on establishment of a network for technological innovation in agriculture, food, and food technology, support for imports and exports, research exchanges between universities, research institutes, and companies, and collaboration to build a sustainable agricultural development model.
Commissioner Guthrie said, "Virginia has a huge agriculture industry and plays a leading role in life science and biotechnology," adding "joint research of universities will be a great value to the development of industries in both regions."
Gwangju's mayor said, "we will grow the industry through cooperation as there is a growing interest in food tech, which combines advanced technologies throughout production, distribution, and consumption."
