According to Yonhap News,

On February 4, Gwangju-si announced that it will establish a 'Large Autonomous Driving Simulator' at the AI Cluster in the Cheomdan 3 District, which will begin official service in the second half of this year.

The driving simulator is an advanced device that allows a driver to virtually experience various driving situations while in a vehicle, enabling the development and verification of autonomous driving functions.

This simulator is one of the 77 types of testing equipment (25 for automobiles, 26 for healthcare, and 26 for energy) included in Gwangju's project to establish AI demonstration infrastructure.

The simulator consists of the 'Driving Simulator' (DILs), the 'Real Vehicle Simulator' (VILs), and the 'Virtual Environment Generation Simulator' (SILs).

The driver-centered 'Driving Simulator' enables the uation and verification of the performance and safety of various vehicles, through interchangeable cabins (box-type driving seats) of passenger cars, trucks, and shuttles.

Installation was completed in December last year at the AI Cluster's Demonstration Building, and system stabilization such as operational training and test driving, are currently underway until March.

The 'Real Vehicle Simulator,' which was first unveiled in a demonstration in Gimpo in May of last year, creates road driving conditions similar to real conditions, allowing for comprehensive uation of vehicles, road conditions, traffic facilities, and traffic.

It is expected to be completed by April of this year, in time with the construction schedule of the AI Cluster's Demonstration Building.

An official from Gwangju-si said, "The establishment of the driving simulator will be a significant step for Gwangju-si in leading the future automotive industry and advancing as a leading AI city. By providing essential infrastructure for autonomous vehicle development, it will serve as a platform for companies and involved organizations to develop innovative technologies and secure global competitiveness."
