According to Yonhap News,
On May 13, Gwangju-si announced that it has been selected for the 'Establishment of Future Vehicle High-Efficiency Electric Components Development Support Platform' project, part of the 'Industrial Technology Infrastructure Development Project' hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE).
As a result, Gwangju-si will invest a total of KRW 23.5 billion to establish a 'Future Vehicle Electrical Component Development Center' in the Bitgreen National Industrial Complex by 2029. The center will be equipped with cutting-edge component testing, uation, and development equipment.
It will focus on performance evaluation of specialized electric components for future vehicle, the introduction of testing and analysis equipment, technical support for the development of advanced, high-efficiency components, workforce training, and providing consulting support for businesses.
In particular, considering that the future vehicle market rapidly grows with the advent of high-performance electric vehicles based on 48V systems and AI-integrated autonomous vehicles equipped with advanced sensors, the importance of high-efficiency electrical components has become more pronounced, which will be efficiently addressed with the establishment of this platform.
Gwangju-si expects that this platform will become a key foundation for the growth of the regional automotive industry and securing the competitiveness of local companies.
Additionally, the city plans to establish a 'full-cycle development support system' that will cover everything from component design and development to production and certification for regional SMEs, in conjunction with the 166 eco-friendly vehicle development equipment and AI-based large driving simulators already set up at the Bitgreen Industrial Complex.
Gwangju's Mayor stated, "This national funding project will lay the core foundation for leading the development of future vehicle components in Gwangju, and we will actively support local businesses to take the lead in technology development."
