According to Yonhap News,
Gwangju-si is launching a project to cultivate 810,000 talented individuals by 2030 to drive the growth of strategic industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and cultural content.
On June 11th, Gwangju-si held the '2030 Gwangju Talent Development Strategy Report Session' at the Gwangju Immersive Content Cube (GCC) VX Studio, with 87 institutions and organizations from education, business associations, industry, and public agencies in attendance.
Under the vision of "LIGHT Talent Development to Brighten Gwangju's Future," Gwangju-si has set a goal to cultivate 350,000 industrial technology professionals and 460,000 future education experts.
The city plans to build a talent development ladder that spans from kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools to universities, graduate schools, and practical work experience. It aims to create an ecosystem linking key strategic industries with education and industry.
Additionally, Gwangju-si will establish a platform to address the imbalance between talent and companies, enhancing practical capabilities based on feedback from the field.
The city will also expand its internship programs with a recruitment focus to provide talent to startups that have growth potential but lack the capital to hire full-time employees immediately.
Gwangju-si aims to strengthen its industry-university-research governance system and create a virtuous cycle where individuals are educated, trained, and settle in Gwangju to start businesses.
Gwangju's Mayor emphasized, "We must ensure that young people do not leave Gwangju due to a lack of jobs and that more companies come to Gwangju to find talented individuals."
