According to Yonhap News,
Gwangju-si is embarking on the creation of an "Energy Public Demonstration Complex" that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and information and communication technology (ICT) to expand renewable energy and invigorate the energy industry.
On July 9, Gwangju-si signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Gwangju Kim Dae-jung Convention Center with the Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority, KEPCO KDN, Gwangju City Development Corporation, and others to promote the expansion of renewable energy and the revitalization of the Energy Valley.
The agreement includes: renewable energy generation projects utilizing public idle land and the creation of citizen funds; the establishment of public demonstration complex based on AI and ICT; and the construction of a new headquarters building for KEPCO KDN’s Gwangju, Jeolla, and Jeju region.
Gwangju-si plans to create an AI·ICT-integrated public demonstration complex to expand the distribution of renewable energy and stimulate the energy industry, while sharing the benefits with citizens through initiatives like the Gwangju-style citizen fund.
KEPCO KDN will build a public office building with a total floor area of 6,000 square meters, six stories tall on a 3150㎡ site at the Energy Valley in the southern district of Gwangju, with an investment of KRW 44.9 billion.
Gwangju Mayor stated, "This agreement marks the starting point of the 'Gwangju Model' for expanding renewable energy and sharing its benefits. We will take the lead in a sustainable energy future."
