According to Yonhap News,

On July 29, the Gwangju Artificial Intelligence Industry Cluster Agency announced that it will advance key AI projects with the KRW 19.1 billion secured through the recent supplementary government budget.

The funds obtained through the supplementary budget will primarily be used for projects aimed at enhancing the service development environment at the Gwangju AI Cluster, strengthening the domestic AI semiconductor ecosystem, and establishing a foundation for autonomous driving technology demonstrations.

The Agency plans to spend KRW 3 billion to create an autonomous driving simulation environment within the AI Cluster.

It will operate an AI simulation cloud platform accessible from anywhere in the country and a multi-virtual environment test server for autonomous driving.

The goal is to simultaneously verify up to 500 autonomous driving scenarios and provide an environment for algorithm validation in connection with large-scale simulators.

It will also invest KRW 9.6 billion in expanding high-performance computing resources to meet the growing demand from AI companies, public institutions, and universities. By doing so, it will operate the total data center resources of 77.7 petaflops (PF), including leasing additional GPU 33.4 PF.

Specifically, 464 high-performance GPUs will be introduced over four months to meet the actual AI development needs in the field.

A budget of KRW 6.5 billion has been allocated for the demonstration and evaluation of domestic AI semiconductors, aiming to improve the performance and reliability.

Two new advanced verification devices will be introduced for domestic NPUs (Neural Processing Units) for servers and edge devices, and four pilot projects will be operated in industries such as finance, healthcare, and manufacturing to verify the commercialization potential.

An official from the Agency said, "this supplementary budget will significantly expand high-performance computing resources and strengthen the domestic AI semiconductor ecosystem and autonomous driving demonstration environment. We will do our best to ensure that Gwangju solidifies its position as a leading AI city.'"
