According to Yonhap News,
An 'AI Center' for testing autonomous vehicles will be established at the Gwangju Driving License Examination Center, currently under construction in Buk-gu, Gwangju.
On December 10, Gwangju-si said that the total project cost for the driving license examination center has increased from the original KRW 37 billion to KRW 45.2 billion, reflecting an additional KRW 8.2 billion.
The additional KRW 8.2 billion includes KRW 7.9 billion for price fluctuations due to increased construction costs (KRW 3 billion for supervision fees, KRW 4.9 billion for construction costs) and KRW 300 million for the design cost of the AI Center (Mobility Certification Center).
With this increase in funding, an 'AI Center' capable of testing, uating, and certifying AI mobility will be added to the Gwangju Driving License Examination Center.
The 'AI Center' will introduce an IT-based driving license uation system and a virtual reality (VR) uation test site. A system for testing and uating autonomous vehicles using the test driving courses at the center will also be established.
Notably, it is under consideration to create a VR test site for uating autonomous driving capabilities, an autonomous driving test site (PG), an AI mobility expert training center, and a Future Traffic Safety Facility Test Research Center.
The Gwangju Driving License Examination Center is a fully government-funded project, being built on a site of 40,210 square meters in the Samgak-dong area of Buk-gu, Gwangju, with an expected completion date at the end of 2027.
