According to Yonhap News,
(Jeonnam-Gwangju=Yonhap News) Reporter Hyung Min-woo = The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City announced on the 9th that 98 companies intending to move into the candidate site for the Muan National Industrial Park have signed investment agreements, successfully securing 50 percent of the planned industrial facility land.
The signatory enterprises span key strategic sectors, including 35 in renewable energy, 7 in K-food, and 56 across AI-driven agri-industry and high-tech sectors.
The candidate site for the Muan National Industrial Park covers approximately 3.47 million square meters (1.05 million pyeong) in Hyeongyeong-myeon, Muan County, and was selected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) in August.
To secure candidate site selection, the Integrated City pursued basic planning and feasibility studies, systematically preparing corporate demand analysis, development directions, infrastructure supply plans, and corporate support measures.
Leveraging abundant renewable energy resources along with superior logistics infrastructure—such as Muan International Airport, the Honam High-Speed Railway, and the Muan-Gwangju Expressway—the city plans to link with the Gwangju Semiconductor National Industrial Park to complete the semiconductor industrial ecosystem across the Honam region.
The city plans to strategically attract semiconductor materials, components, and equipment (SMC/SoBuJang), warehousing and logistics, renewable energy, K-food convergence, and AI high-tech industries.
The Integrated City and Muan County will manage corporate investment plans to ensure MoUs convert into actual ground investments, while intensifying investment attraction activities targeting anchor enterprises.
Min Hyung-bae, Mayor of the Integrated Special City, stated, "Signing investment agreements with 98 enterprises for 320,000 pyeong of land—securing 50 percent of the planned industrial facility space—demonstrates the robust corporate demand and high project feasibility of the Muan National Industrial Park." He added, "Grounded in verified corporate demand and economic viability, we will petition the central government for swift official designation and approval of the National Industrial Park."
