According to Yonhap News,

The number of foreign visitors to Gwangju rose by 100,000 in 2010 on a year-on-year basis.

According to Gwangju City on April 11th, Korea Culture & Tourism Institute released its study on inbound tourists which showed the number of foreign visitors to Gwangju increased by 100,000 from 130,000 in 2009 to 230,000 in 2010, the highest growth rate (73%) in Korea.

Against this backdrop, hotel occupancy rate in the region (the rate of total rooms sold against the total number of rooms available) grew from 40% (279,000 persons) in 2009 to 52% (551,000 persons).

An official of Gwangju said “our constant efforts to attract more foreign tourists are reaping fruits,” and added “the occupancy rate of five-star hotels has exceeded 60%, and especially Ramada Plaza Gwangju in Sangmu District posted 70% of occupancy rate.”
