According to Yonhap News,

The number of cities to take part in Gwangju Summit of the Urban Environmental Accords (UEA Gwangju Summit) has surpassed 50, accelerating the preparation for the Summit.

According to Gwangju on April 14th, as of six months before the summit, 51 cities of 30 countries notified they would participate in the summit.

Among them are 14 national capitals and famous cities including Vienna, Leipzig, and Shanghai.

Gwangju City plans to induce the participation of global environmental cities such as Toronto and Curitiba.

An official of the city said “an increasing number of cities are joining UEA Gwangju Summit thanks to Mayor Gang Un-tae who has asked for involvement to cities during his overseas business trip and aggressive cooperation of UNEP, the co-host of the summit, and San Francisco.”

UEA Gwangju Summit will gather about 100 cities home and abroad to Kimdaejung Convention Center on October 12th and 13th. Subsidiary events include UEA UNEP Youth Forum and joint symposiums between United Nations University and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) from October 11th to 18th.
