The Number of Participating Cities in the UAE Gwangju Summitee Increases

According to Yonhap News,

 

The number of participating cities in the Gwangju Summit of the Urban Environmental Accords (UEA Gwangju Summit) increased to 65 cities in 37 countrires.

 

According to Gwangju city, bidding team of UEA Gwangju Summit visited Oceania, India and Europe to ask for participation. After the visit, six cities in five countries said that they will take part in the summit.

 

The six cities are Brussels in Belgium, Almere and Leiden in Netherlands, Freibrug in Germany, and Copenhagen in Denmark. Barcelona in Spain expressed its willingness to participate when mayor Gang Un-tae visited the city.

 

Kim Kwi-Gon, head of the bidding team, said that the number of participating cities is expected to increase as more and more cities are interested in environmental issues including the clean development mechanism and urban environmental index.

 

The organizing committee of the UEA Gwangju Summit is expected to hold the second meeting to check the preparation.

 

UEA Gwangju Summit is organized by Gwangju city, UNEP, and Sanfransisco. It will be held under the theme of ‘Green City, Better City’ from October 11th to 14th.
