According to Yonhap News,

Gwangju City concluded a MOU on economic cooperation with the Republic of Suriname in South America.

At Gwangju City Hall, Mayor Gang Un-tae and the presidential special envoy of the republic signed the MOU deal designed to pursue mutual practical cooperation in various fields, such as economy, trade, science and technology, tourism, photovoltaic and automotive industries.

According to the MOU, Gwangju will participate in the expansion of the republic's SOC project and recommend the country to use LED products manufactured in Gwangju in street lights and lightings.

The Republic of Suriname, albeit a small country with the population of 500,000, is three fourths of the Korean Peninsula in size and is rich in bauxite, gold, nickel and copper.
