According to Yonhap News,

Chosun University in Gwangju will build the second hospital building with 1,000 beds.

"We've got an approval of the establishment of the second building from the board of directors. We plan to coordinate details to secure land for the new building," said a staff of the university.

The establishment of an additional hospital building by Chosun University Hospital, one of the largest university hospitals in Gwangju City and South Jeolla Province, is expected to reshape the landscape of medical services in the region.

As the hospital faces challenges to accommodate a growing number of patients about forty years after its foundation, it decided to build an additional hospital building.

The construction is presumed to cost about 200 billion won. However, details on how to finance the construction have not been decided yet.

Allegedly, Chosun University Hospital is considering financing the construction with the private investment and then renting the building and paying the costs over decades of years.

If established, the hospital will prevent the outflow of its local patients and medical professionals to the Seoul Metropolitan Area and see more patients outside Gwangju with specialized medical services.
