The International Environmental Analysis and Education Center (IEAEC) of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) won a 300,000 dollar-water quality improvement project order for Africa and Southeast Asia in partnership with the Koran government.

The project, conducted by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), is designed to provide consulting services, conduct education and workshop, publish educational materials and support equipment for developing countries.

The IEAEC will conduct science and technology training for water quality monitoring and sustainable water management for the next three years.

In addition, the center will invite water-related professors and researchers from Africa and Southeast Asia to the GIST to provide educational program on water quality monitoring.

The GIST, designated as an official cooperative agency by the United Nations University, established the IEAEC in December 2003 and operate educational program to enhance developing countries' capacity in environment.

"Our participation in science and technology development project seemed to be recognized in the world, which led us to win the water project order," said professor Park Gi-hong, an acting director of GIST. "Our engagement in the project will be an important opportunity for us to enhance cooperation with various international agencies under the umbrella of the United Nations."
