According to Yonhap News,
Gwangju posted the record high trade surplus of 863 million dollars in
September, according to the Gwangju Customs.
Gwangju and South Jeolla Province (Jeonnam) recorded the trade surplus of 435 million dollars including 4.847 billion dollars in exports and 4.412 billion dollars in imports.
Gwangju and Jeonnam's improving trade balance seemed to be attributable to their strong exports in semiconductor, automobile, shipbuilding and petrochemical product.
Most countries saw the trade surplus with China recording 1.017 billion dollars, Southeast Asia 995 million dollars, the U.S. 346 million dollars, Central and South America 237 million dollars and Japan 48 million dollars. In contrast, the Middle East and EU posted the trade deficit of 2.097 billion dollars and 193 million dollars, respectively.
