Gwangju Design Biennale, co-hosted by the center and Gwangju Biennale Foundation, will focus on searching great designs and making them commercially available.

The center will also team up with world-renowned universities and institutions including Goldsmiths, University of London to prepare for the International Design Alliance Congress 2015.

It will invest a total of 3.8 billion won for three years to support the design convergence project, selected as the new specialized industry, in a bid to cultivate professionals.

In addition, the center plans to create Gwangju Design Week to promote the regional design industry.

“It is time for Gwangju’s design industry to achieve the quality growth beyond the quantitative growth,” said Jang Sang-geun, Director of GDC. “The three projects will elevate Gwangju’s design industry to the next level.”
