Alps Electronic Korea has opened a research and development (R&D) center in Gwangju.

The company held an opening ceremony for the R&D center, a three-story building with a size of 3,505㎡, on April 23. The center will develop new automobile electronic parts, door modules, and power mirror switches.

Alps Electronic Korea, a Japanese-invested company specializing in electronic apparatuses and home appliances, hired 50 more researchers last year to strengthen its R&D capabilities. It changed business fields to automobile electronic parts and home-mobile devices, such as TVs and video tape recorders. It recorded KRW 350 billion in sales last year, up 14 percent from KRW 180 billion in 2008.

“Our continued investment promotion efforts made Alps Electronic Korea decide to build an R&D center in the city. We expect that the growth of the company and the relevant industry will help Gwangju become an automobile manufacturing base of Korea,”said a municipal official.
