Gwangju Hosts Design Korea 2013

Gwangju announced today that it will host Design Korea 2013, the largest deign event in Korea, for the second time as a local city following Daegu.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy also announced that Design Korea 2013 will be held in Gwanju from October 10th for four days aiming at balanced growth of Korean design industry.

Design Korea is held every year from 2003 to promote excellence of Korean designs and share recent design trends.

Around 300 companies and 1,200 domestic and international buyers are expected to visit the event.

Gwangju has won the competition by emphasizing its background of hosting the 5th Gwangju Design Biennale and 2015 International Design Alliance (IDC) Congress.

The city also proclaimed the year 2013 as the year of design industry, and its strategy to foster design industry to become a capital of Asian design is expected to gain momentum.

Participating companies will be selected through a contest which will be continued from May 24 to June 14.

Mayor of Gwangju Gang Eun-tae noted that Gwangju is one of the few cities which hold biennale every year and it also hosts IDC Congress in 2015. He emphasized the Design Korea 2013 will act as a corner stone for Gwangju to grow into the design mecca of Asia.
