GCCI Makes Recommendation to the Blue House for Regional Economic Vitalization
(GWANGJU=NEWSIS) Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) made suggestions to the President Park Geun-hye for plans to vitalize regional economy in the wake of the Sewol ferry disaster.
GCCI announced on May 10 that Chairman Park Hung-seok of GCCI had attended the emergency committee on public welfare, presided by the President Park Geun-hye, at the Blue House and made three recommendations to revitalize regional economy after the ferry disaster.
Details of what Chairman Park recommended on May 9 are as follows. ▲ Revitalize regional tourism industry. ▲ Minimize losses in the ship-building related industries ▲ Government’s investment expansion policy for SOC(Social Overhead Capital) and public sector construction
Mr. Park elaborated on the proposals by saying that visitors to small islands have decreased greatly after the Sewol disaster even though Jeolla Province boasts natural tourist attraction with well-developed tourism infrastructure. Furthermore, given that the Sewol ferry disaster has significantly affected the local economy, he urged the government to take actions to revitalize regional tourism industry.
