According to Yonhap News,

(ULSAN=Yonhap News) Ulsan City is actively supporting establishment of research centers of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in an effort to strengthen R&D capabilities of local businesses.

The city selected nine SMEs this year and help them set up six corporate research centers and three R&D teams with budget of KRW 300 million.

Among them, three research centers and one R&D team were approved by the Korea Industrial Technology Association as certified research organizations.

The city has been supporting research and development activities of SMEs since 2008 and provided assistance for establishment of 65 research institutes and 18 R&D teams as of the end of last year.

"As enhanced R&D capabilities of SMEs can bolster their competitiveness, we will continue to provide consulting services focusing on the Ulsan Techno Park to nurture competitive SMEs going forward," a city official said.
