On April 23, Ulsan City announced it will hold the 2nd DfAM(Design for Additive Manufacturing) Contest to seek ways to jointly-develop the 3D printing and manufacturing industries.

DfAM is a key tool in the 3D printing industry as a design method that maximizes the advantages of 3D printing, making it drastically different from traditional manufacturing methods.

DfAM contests have only been hosted by global companies such as GM and Siemens, but last year, Ulsan received critical acclaim for hosting the first of its kind in Korea.

The competition will have 2 different parts - free public contest (household goods) and designated contest (industrial).

The preliminaries will mainly focus on document screening, and announcements and actual evaluations will be made in the final round. Contestants can also access the 3D printer and materials as well as help from a professional.

On September 13, the finalist and runner-ups will be announced for a combined award of KRW 10 million. The winning piece will be exhibited in the "3D Printing Tech Festa" in Ulsan University.
