According to Yonhap News,

The city of Ulsan ran a briefing session, attended by 30 more judicial authorities, in an attempt to elaborate on a new plan, what’s called a ‘Unified Smart City Platform’ project on Jan. 31. Once it’s implemented, each municipalities’ video footage captured by security cameras will be transmitted to the unified control tower, which manages and provides the recording data to the local judiciary to well protect public safety and prevent against potential crimes. The KRW 1.2 billion project was nominated as part of national development plans last year by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, an executive body to get the plan competed by October.

Any security camera footage stored in five different local communities will be transmitted to the smart city center in Ulsan city, a unified control tower and data provider connected to local rescue centers, the police and Justice department’s GPS tracking center.

The data collected and transmitted can be automatically shared with the local communities involved and used to trace down criminals with ankle bracelets or to help the socially marginalized by identifying GPS location data.
