Ulsan city signed an MOU for research partnership with local hidden champions
The city of Ulsan signed an MOU on Sep 1 with 11 local hidden champions, who’ve recently moved its head office from Ulsan TechnoPark to the city districts, for research partnership. The city and the TechnoPark agreed to give full support to the businesses to help them well settle and scale up in the community, whereas the counterparts reaffirmed shared goals to push for the partnership deal – building out industry base to turn the city a tech-leader of the upcoming forth industrial revolution and making commitment to job creation.
With the tile “Tech Agglomeration among Hidden Champions”, one of a dozen city projects being pushed ahead since last year, the city has worked on encouraging small but strong businesses with full potential of technological prowess to move into the city districts by changing the relevant ordinance / enforcement regulation on business relocation, alongside city guidelines for subsidy allocation.
As such, the local authorities successfully moved 54 enterprises into the community, adding 129 new jobs. Selecting 11 companies involved in new industries this year in particular, Ulsan city provides cash grants up to KRW 80 million to support research work.
Teaming up with Korea Free Economic Zone (KFEZ Ulsan), the city plans to seek for another target to be fostered in Hydrogen economy, future mobility, bio-healthcare, 3D printing technology etc.
