Ulsan to pursue development of hydrogen electric hybrid bus

Ulsan City is to push for development of hydrogen electric hybrid bus. It signed MOU on development and service demonstration of hydrogen electric hybrid bus at City Hall on June 16. This MOU has been prepared to respond to changes in global auto market by recognizing the importance of future car industry and expanding eco-friendly bus.

The MOU is participated by 9 companies and institutions including the City, Ulsan TechnoPark, APAM, NGVI, KAR, Seongsan VCC, AUTP Rex, Seoul Bus, and TCH Parnters.

According to the MOU, the City is responsible for supporting hydrogen electric hybrid bus development, Ulsan TechnoPark for business management and operation.

5 auto companies including APAM are to develop bus technologies, 2 demand companies like Seoul Bus are to be responsible for demonstration and popularization of buses.

The bus development and demonstration will cost about 2.3 billion won by 2024.

The buses are to produce electricity from hydrogen fuel cell which is stored in battery, and then battery electricity run the motor.

Once development and demonstration are completed, buses developed in Busan are expected to spread to the Capital area. Seoul Bus and TCH Partners own more than 1,100 buses in the Capital area. In particular, the city explained that demand will arise as about 10 percent of Seoul buses are replaced or destructed annually.

A city official said, "With this MOU, we will pre-emptively respond to a changing car market and secure world-class competitiveness in the hydrogen electric hybrid bus in the world."
