According to Yonhap News,

The Ulsan Port Authority on Aug. 26 announced that the Ulsan Port in posted the second biggest container shipments in record.

According to the port authority, the Ulsan port handled 18.65 million tons of international cargos, up 14.1% year-on-year.

The record is the biggest achievement since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Fluid cargo was up 16.9% from last year, posting 3.24 million tons.

General cargo had a decrease of 22.2 percent on year, with 33,171 TEU (1 TEU for a 20 feet container) in July.

Behind the shipments increase did the Ulsan Port Authority point out the reasons like the following : ▲ the expanded attraction of temporarily staying ships ▲ Promotion of new inbound cargos ▲ vitalizing the operation of new tank terminal ▲ increased exports of eco-friendly vehicles, etc.

"We achieved the second biggest monthly shipments by aggressively implementing port sales," "As there are growing uncertainties internally and externally such as concerns over economic downturn in the second half, we will step up the marketing to continue to ramp up cargo volumes," one port official said.
