The World Korean Business Convention sponsored by Maeil Business Newspaper for the last 20 years will be held offline at Ulsan Exhibition & Convention Center for three days starting on Nov. 1.

Around 2,000 participants from 40 countries are joining this year’s networking event for Korean businessmen at home and around the world.

The convention was launched in 2002 jointly by Maeil Business Newspaper and the Overseas Koreans Foundation on hopes to promote networking among overseas and domestic businessmen.

The number of participants in the convention has reached 60,000 in cumulative count over 20 years.

The annual event has helped to arrange consulting deals worth $3.5 billion, according to the Overseas Koreans Foundation. Through its internship program, the convention has helped 700 young jobseekers land internship in 460 companies from 40 countries. This year, 60 firms from 20 countries will employ 70 interns.

The Leading CEO Forum, a network belonging to the convention, will be held on Nov. 2.

Korean entrepreneurs overseeing companies with more than $3 million in capital and $30 million in annual sales are eligible to participate in the network. Currently, it holds 63 members from 17 countries. The forum advises the convention steering committee and contributes to nurturing next-generation Korean entrepreneurs.

The 20th event this year will hold a startup competition for nine candidates that passed preliminary reviews. After screening by a panel of venture capital firms at home and abroad, the top finalists will gain an opportunity to attend next year’s convention in Orange County, California, the U.S.

In addition, the event will provide small and mid-sized firms with overseas business opportunities. “We have prepared various programs this year to provide business opportunities for promising firms,” said Kim Sung-kon, president of the Overseas Koreans Foundation.
