According to Yonhap News,

Ulju-gun, Ulsan -si is slated to set up 'smart community centers for the elderly' in 100 local senior citizens' centers in its pilot stage starting early next year.

On Dec. 21, Ulju-gun signed an MOU with Ulju County Facility Management Corporation, Korean Senior Citizens Association Ulju, and KT Ulsan to establish the smart community centers for the elderly.

The birth of smart community center was realized with an aim of addressing digital isolation among the elderly group by enhancing digital convenience. At the same time, it is to form a small welfare center for seniors who have difficulty visiting the cultural facilities due to distance.

In the existing centers, smart infrastructure including IPTV will be set up for related institutions to offer various leisure welfare and health programs.

In accordance with the agreement, KT Ulsan will cooperate with the county to build a fundamental plan for establishing smart community centers for the elderly, as well as channels tailored to old citizens.

Lee Soon-geol, head of Ulju-gun, said, "Smart community centers would improve the convenience of the elder's leisure activities while providing diverse information suitable for the digital information society," adding, "Going forward, we will actively pursue the project for the senior welfare for their enjoyable life after retirement."
