Ulsan Artificial Intelligence (AI) Committee was launched, which focus on formulating AI development strategy
On August 12, Ulsan-si announced the launch of the 'Ulsan Artificial Intelligence (AI) Committee' and held its first meeting to activate a public-private collaboration system for AI development.
The AI Committee, which consists of 20 experts from various fields including manufacturing, energy, information technology, and education, was officially launched in the Ulsan City Hall.
The committee members will play a key role in developing Ulsan's AI industry, especially in light of the upcoming establishment of the SK-Amazon Web Services (AWS) AI data center and the implementation of the Basic Act on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in January next year. They will focus on fleshing out key policy projects and propose execution strategies for Ulsan's AI industrial growth.
Following the launch ceremony, the first meeting will be held to discuss ▲ fostering industries centered around the AI data center ▲ spreading AI across different sectors ▲ advancing AI talent development systems, and shaping Ulsan’s AI strategy in alignment with national strategy.
Ulsan Mayor stated, "Ulsan is the ideal location to stand at the center of the AI-based industrial transformation as it has data infrastructure in addition to manufacturing industry foundation. We will integrate AI technologies into key industries to create practical outcomes."
Previously, the city attracted an AI-exclusive data center from SK Telecom and Amazon Web Services, valued at a total of KRW 7 trillion in June.
The data center, which is scheduled to begin construction in August, will start its first-phase operation in 2027 with 41 MW, and the entire facility, including 103 MW of high-performance GPU-based infrastructure, will be completed by 2029.
