According to Yonhap News,

Ahead of Korean New Year holiday, foreign kids experienced Korean traditional custom and culture.

Hyundai Foreign School located in Seobu-dong, Dong-gu, Ulsan, run by Hyundai Heavy Industries, organized an event that allows about 100 kids aged between 3 and 13 to experience Korean New Year.

Since 2010, the event has been designed to give foreign children the opportunity to understand the meaning of Korean own holiday of New Year and learn about Korean traditional culture.

The foreign kids dressed in colorful Hanbok, Korean traditional clothing, experienced Korean New Year custom, such as holding a memorial ceremony for ancestors and bowing to relatives.

They also tried some Korean holiday food including rice cake and experienced Korean traditional games such as playng Yut, throwing sticks into the barrel and playing Korean shuttlecock with a foot.

They are the children of employees of the ship owner and ship's classification who are dispatched to work at Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Hyundai Foreign School said that "We organized the event to help foreign students who have few opportunities to experience Korean traditional culture during their stay in Korea get better understanding of it."

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the school's foundation in 1982. The school has 11 classes for 11 graders from preschoolers to middle school students.

With about 11 students from 20 nations including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Germany attending, it was authorized as an international school by the Council of International Schools.
