According to Yonhap News,

Hyundai Motors' Labor Union is scheduled to hold a press conference to unveil its plan to set up a committee for manufacturing "Healthy Vehicles" at the City Hall tomorrow. Labor union members of Hyundai Motors and its partner companies will participate in the conference.

As a main pillar of the committee, the Metal Workers' Union enticed active participation from manufacturers of finished vehicles and automotive components.

The union has decided to establish the committee based on the consideration that workers from the manufacturing sector of finished vehicles and components are exposed to high-risk materials containing carcinogens at their workplace.

Currently, manufacturers of finished vehicles including Hyundai and Kia Motors and GM Korea are taking action to reduce the level of carcinogens.

In contrast, manufacturers of components, most of whom are SMEs, don't have systematic structures to protect their workers from the harmful substances.

The newly-established committee is expected to support the SMEs to take systematic action for their vulnerable workers.

Hyundai Motors' Labor Union said, "We will urge local governors and communities to join our efforts to make "Healthy Vehicles."
