Ulsan-si accounts for approximately 48% of the country's hydrogen production. As of June 2025, it has built a 198 km hydrogen pipeline network, 16 hydrogen refueling stations, and deployed 3,259 hydrogen electric vehicles. The city has established a comprehensive infrastructure covering the entire hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and utilization cycle.
The Hydrogen City Development Project aims to create a hydrogen ecosystem where hydrogen is the primary energy source within the city. This involves expanding the hydrogen pipeline to directly supply hydrogen to buildings and hydrogen refueling stations, as well as supplying electricity and heat to residential models through hydrogen fuel cell power generation in a citizen-oriented project.
Additionally, the city is advancing an eco-friendly hydrogen urban transportation system through initiatives such as hydrogen tractor demonstrations and transitioning to hydrogen mobility based on hydrogen trams.
